[WEEK 4] REFLECTION ON INFOGRAPHIC DESIGN

In the class, my classmates and I shared about the design of our own infographics and I did get lots of feedback from them in terms of the layout of my infographic design. I found that even a very trivial elements, for example the display angle of one word, can affect the feeling perceived by your audience. And it's always good to have different people look at my design and give suggestions from different perspectives. This can be a test of what your potential audience wants to get from your infographic.

There was not much lecture time in class this week. However, Dr. Glazewski shared with us some useful websites, like Design-Milk and Flickr, which gave me much inspiration to relate to my own infographic and major project design. I kept having a question in mind, "What colors of combination can be put in my infographic to best display my information and the whole image of my design?"  When Dr. Glazewski said in class that she just feels great with most of the things in orange color, I feel like the use of colors in any design would be subjective and depends on designers' own preference and the level of comfort. Just because there's no right or wrong use of color, it's hard for designers to create  a product that appeals to every people. In the realm of infographic design, perhaps the principle that designers can follow is to apply colors as related to information as possible. Also, I guess by taking some more minutes on looking at different kinds of design around you everyday and being more attentive, our taste and sense of design can be stimulated and nurtured.

  1. Hi Janet:
I understand infographic work is time-consuming, but it still impressed me a lot, so I can only take the final "safe"minutes to finish my"hoosier Buddy"assignment here.I thought about the color combination of mine infographic for long but I chose the stunning black & red theme for my serious topic. However, I care more about the Font. In this case I used "Georgia", but it looks silly when bolded. Do you have any recommendation of appropriate fonts for further work?
After I finished the work, I suddenly regretted using such a big "Canvas" as large as A4 paper...I think it is always important for a designer to control the expression. Good selection of information would help a better whole-view.
